We engage educators and school leaders to learn from each other's success
The Compact is responsive to the needs of schools and sectors in effecting system-wide change. In 2018, we brought school and sector leaders together with CPLAN (the Collaborative Parent Leadership Action Network) to design and facilitate Boston’s first cross-sector school climate survey for families, a collaboration that is ongoing. The Compact also convenes a table of school operations teams across the sectors to solve school bus transportation challenges, an initiative that has saved Boston Public Schools more than one million dollars.
Our Learning Days bring educators across the sectors together to visit schools where historically underserved student populations are thriving. Another practice-sharing initiative, currently on hiatus, is the Boston Educators Collaborative. Launched in 2017 in partnership with Teach Plus, the BEC provides teachers the opportunity to take professional development courses taught by teachers. Teacher Leaders are listed as adjunct faculty at UMass Boston, and participants have the opportunity to earn PD or course credits through UMass Boston.
The Compact convenes educators to create positive change in Boston schools through two networked improvement communities (NICs): the Boston Eskolta Network and the Roxbury Special Education Network. The NIC model is based on improvement science methodology and allows educators to set clear goals, collect and analyze data, and make evidence-based decisions about how to improve within a narrow problem of practice.
